Education and Professional Experiences

Dr. Zhaoqi Yang received his master degree in major of medicinal chemistry from Wuhan University in 2005. Then, he joined in College of Pharmacy at Jinan University to work as a lecturer from 2005 to 2008. After three years working experiences in Jinan University, he pursued his Ph.D. degree in the Division of Chemistry and Biological Chemistry at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) supported by a research scholarship provided by NTU. After he earned his Ph.D. degree, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the Division of Chemistry and Biological Chemistry at NTU in 2012. From Nov to Dec in 2012, he worked as visiting scholar in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. In Jan 2013, he joined the faculty as associate professor in the School Food Science and Technology at Jiangnan University. From Jan 2017, he transferred to School of Pharmaceutical Sciences in same university.

Research Achievements

The major focuses of his research is chemical biology with emphasis on the DNA structure and function. Most importantly, he has discovered that Human topoisomerase I could recognize the forcible curvature of DNA, which is one of the greatest breakthroughs in the field of topoisomerase in recent years. On account of his excellent research, more than forty papers have been published over the past several years, including four papers in Chemical Communications, four papers in Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry Letters, and so on. In addition, he is a member of Royal Society of Chemistry and Chinese Chemical Society, and the principle investigator on Natural Science Foundation of China Grant, the Grant for the Returned Overseas Scholars of Ministry of Education and so on, as well as the referee for some journals related to chemistry and pharmaceutical sciences.
